Henri de Quart
  • Description
    • Precious handcrafted furniture as well as curtains with pastel shades that blend into the color of the walls make this room very warm and comfortable. Located on the ground floor, without architectural barriers, the room Henri de Quart is equipped with every comfort: HD LED TV with SKY, telephone, free WI-fi access, walk-in closet and safe lock.     • The Castle of Quart, tenaciously clinging to the rock and overlooking the valley, dates back to 1185, when the forefather of the Lords of Quart dynasty Jacques de la porte de Saint -Ours built the oldest part . When Henri de Quart died without a male heir in 1377, he became the last lord of Quart and he was known as the founder of the Villefranche village. He gave the castle to the Lordship of Savoy much against his will.

    • Count both of Challants and Aarberg, Prince of Valangin, Baron of Aymavilles and Bauffremont, Marshal of Savoy, Governor of Aosta Valley and Lieutenant of the states of Savoy: René de Challants is among the best known big names of the region. The Count showed a complex personality: he was ready to do anything to exercise the political power, but at the same time he was extremely careful to his family ties. Choosing his daughter Isabella as an heir, something that was contrary to the laws and local customs at that time, became the reason of endless disputes among different branches of the family and marked the beginning of the decline of one of the oldest and most prestigious families within the Duchy of Aosta.

    • Beyond a doubt the most famous as well as the leading member of the family was Alexandre de Vallaise Marquis of Romagnano and Baron of Arnad. He was Minister Plenipotentiary both in Vienna (1799) and St. Petersburg ( 1802 ), as well as Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sardinia, which he represented at the Congress of Vienna. The carefully designed furniture is characterized by the warmth and splendour of a traditional mountain style, which makes the room Alexandre de Vallaise a small chest where all the flavors of the past are preserved.

    • Pierre-Leonard Roncas was one of the most important and powerful figures both in Aosta Valley and throughout the Duchy of Savoy, between the late sixteenth and the early seventeenth century. As an expert diplomat , Pierre-Leonard Roncas was the first Secretary of State for the Duke Charles Emmanuel I. He aroused astonishment and envy within the local ruling class of the time, due to the success he reached and lost quickly.

    • It is said that Catherine de Challant was a woman of rare beauty, with an elegant bearing but also a bold, clever and cunning person. She fought against the Savoy, by claiming to succeed his father with the title of Countess: something that was contrary to the family traditions and customs of the Duchy. However, the lucky star left the Countess in the last years of her life. Indeed, in 1456, she was involved in a trial and put in jail. She always showed determination and courage,two virtues judged by his contemporaries “superior to her sex”.

Jean Baptiste de Tillier

    • Jean -Baptiste De Tillier was born in Aosta in 1678 and he's widely known as the founding father of Aosta Valley's history. He was appointed Secretary of the Assembly of States as well as of the Conseil de Commis in 1700, the most important function within the administrative field of the Duchy of Aosta. He wrote “l'Historique de la Vallée d'Aoste”, a work that was immediately banned from the Savoy State, since it fomented a possible independence of the inhabitants.
